Media Industries

Publishing is a varied group of different media industries all together this group includes; Books, Comic Books/Graphic Novels, Manga, Directories and Mailing Lists, Journals, Newspapers, Magazines and Business Media, News Agencies etc.  Publishing now includes being both print based as well as online. Publishing Media has been slowly moving from being an purely print based to being solely online.

Magazines coming under the heading of Publishing Media Industries, magazines are a very different medium than newspapers or blogs, magazines are very much still a print based medium however they still run online content.

Newspapers were once the largest media industry at news gathering (and in tabloid cases - gossip and sport), both Newspapers and Magazines are similar in terms of how they are printed, run etc but target very different groups of people. Newspapers generally are out there to bring in the daily news or to give insight in to a political or intellectual figure, via interview or press release.

Animation is a growing media industry; this is potentially because of advancements in technology making the process easier than when it was either hand drawn or clay animation. However there are still many companies still using traditional techniques and then after that process moving on to digitise the animation. A buck against this trend would be Studio Ghibli, who started to use computer tech with Princess Mononoke. Miyazaki, co-founder of Ghibli said in an interview with the Financial Times that "it's very important for me to retain the right ratio between working by hand and computer. I have learnt that balance now, how to use both and still be able to call my films 2D." The balance between computer and hand drawn has been used as a standard for all the films produced until Ponyo where Miyazaki went back to the tradition of hand drawn animation for everything saying that "hand drawing on paper is the fundamental of animation." Studio Ghibli's computer animation dept was dissolved before the production of Ponyo had been started.

Film has continually grown from a small niche industry to a large corprate giant of the media indusrties. Film is mainly used to entertain audiences, by stories and real life stories, portyared by actors who because of being in films and on television gain a celebrity status.

Television has a similar style of indursty to film, however this is generally on a smaller budget (some execptions to only having a small budget is Downton Abbey which generally has a larger budet than most other costume dramas.).

Web 2.0 is as continually growning part of the industry, which incorpates now all previous media indusrties.

Music industry is a manie of big companies, small local companies and then individuals that make money by creating, promoting and selling music and merchandise.

Radio industry main purpose is to promote and spread music. However the industries also create audio dramas, interviews, political slots and funnies.

Video Games industries has been growing slowly and is now a very large media industry now. Their main role is to produce, promote and create interactive entertainment.

Facilities is the part of the media indusrty which loans ror sells equipment to other industries like Film, Tv etc.
